| Our client, a major magazine publisher located in Manhattan, has the need for a Prepress and Quality Control Technical Assistant for a consult-to-hire opportunity.
Job Title: Prepress/QC Technical Assistant Type: Consult-to-hire Location: Manhattan Pay: Approx. $15/hour while consulting (mid $30K/year with benefits when permanent) SHIFT FLEXIBILITY IS NECESSARY: Until the job becomes permanent, you must be available to either work M-F for 3-5 hours daily or 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off during peak production periods. The successful candidate will have the desire and flexibility to fit into the client’s workflow. RECENT COLLEGE GRADUATES (WITH SOME PREPRESS EXPERIENCE) ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY Basic Tasks: -maintain and calibrate proofers (load paper and inks, routine maintenance) -read proofs with spectrophotometer to check calibration -review and show color with various art departments (visual skills needed) -track color and pages using Filemaker database -assist Art Production staff with color and page production as needed Required Skills: -must have at least a basic working knowledge of Adobe CS, especially Photoshop and Indesign (advanced knowledge is a huge plus). -good communication skills are essential; there will be a great deal of interaction with numerous people across various publications. -good organizational skills needed to keep track of high volume during peak periods General: -willingness to learn and grow. This is a small department requiring each member to wear many hats and have a basic working knowledge of each other’s expertise.
